Corrosion Types For Brass Pipe Fittings Manufacturers To Contend With

Erosion or degradation of metal tubing and fittings is due to a variety of causes and situations. The makers of brass pipe fittings explain when and how corrosion happens and how to deal with it. Corrosion is typically the product of the consistency of the water in the Brass pipe fitting and the natural setting. This article would refer to brass tubing, as they are widely used and have been used as plumbing fittings for years.

The hard-drawn domestic brass pipe is built in three forms-

  • Type K – HPHT
  •   L-MPMT type
  •  Type M-PLT

Form K is a high-pressure/high-temperature pipe with green stamping (thickest wall).

Form L is a low pressure/medium temperature pipe with a blue stamping (medium thickness)

Form M is a low pressure/low temperature pipe with red stamping (thinnest wall and commonly used)

Manufacturers do not mark soft annealed copper or brass coils used in private home building.

This threaded brass pipe fittings should be mounted using flux and sized to regulate the water velocity, which should be limited to 4-5 feet per second. Pipe pressure does not exceed 80 psi or the deterioration of the flow happens at the elbows and at any location where there is a shift in the direction of flow.

Why is corrosion occurring?

The key cause of corrosion is sloppy workmanship or bad installation, such as-

• Excessive flushing of the pipe system results in flux corrosion or cell corrosion after completion.

• Use of acid based flux or improper use of flux results in degradation of the flux.

• Insufficient deburring of split tubes resulting in increased water velocity and reduced internal pipe diameter.

It is important to mitigate or remove those corrosions and it can be accomplished with sufficient flushing of the finished plumbing after a pressure test has been carried out.

It is necessary to verify that water should not be permitted to stagnate within the pipes, as the defensive forming of the cuprous oxide layer would not occur uniformly on the inside of the pipe wall. This is why big building contractors are approached as they provide the right plumbing options for domestic purposes.

There are various forms of corrosion that factories have to contend with. If you have such fittings in your house, you must make an attempt to protect them by continuing to inspect and verify the connections and watching for leaks and fixing them on time.

As compared to zinc or bronze, brass has stunning acoustic properties that are notable for greater flexibility and solidity. Properties of Brass Fasteners Some of the highlighting applications and properties of brass fasteners that you can consider include Sturdy plan – Brass metal can be moulded into a number of shapes based on the specifications. They are also helpful in the treatment of material harm. Less clasping torque – Brass latches are remarkably smooth and adaptable, requiring the least amount of clasping torque. With the proper drive and weight, they can be tr...

What are Threaded Brass pipe fittings ?

All the brass pipe fittings are made with thread on them to better fit the system they are manufactured for. The threads vary in sizes, Pitch, Thread Count, Taper thread, straight thread. Threads like NPT, BSPT, BSPP, NPTF, UNF, UNC, JIC,. Etc. all vary in Thread Per inch, & taper as per the specification of there association or as per   there country’s specifications. Pipe fittings consist of pneumatic Brass fittings, hydraulic fittings,. Etc. pipe fittings in itself are a vast variety of fittings which go from plumbing fittings to air brake fittings to air compression fittings. Pipe fittings can be made from different materials like steel, copper, brass, bronze, stainless steel, nickel plated brass. INDOFIX has a long time experience in manufacturing of Brass fittings, Compression brass fittings, pneumatic brass fittings.
